BOOKING SURGERY

  1. Once you've agreed to surgery in clinic you will sign the appropriate documents

  2. Dr. Desai’s office will call you within two weeks and you will book a surgery date. If you need to cancel or change this date, please do so at least six weeks in advance.


BEFORE SURGERY

Two weeks before your procedure you will be contacted by the Clearpoint Health Surgical Centre Administration to advise of your arrival time.  They will provide you with information about the surgery day.

24 hours before your procedure you will be contacted again by the Clearpoint Health Surgical Centre Administration to review the surgical plan with you. DO NOT eat or drink after midnight the day before surgery.

DAY OF SURGERY

  • Please thoroughly shower and wash your leg (knee down) with an antibacterial soap

  • Please cut your toenails (anytime the week of the surgery is fine)

  • If you have crutches you can bring them with you or can purchase them from the hospital


1 HOURS BEFORE SURGERY

  • You will check in with the Surgical Registration Desk in Suite 103 at 20 Wynford Drive at the time advised.  Please note there is limited waiting space for family, it is easier for your driver to drop you off and our Post-Op Nurses will call them when you are ready for pick up.

  • At the time of check in you will be asked to confirm the name and phone number of the the person or family member who will be picking you up, driving you home and taking care of you for the 24 hours after your surgery. 

  • You will then proceed to the Pre-Operative Unit.

30 MINUTES BEFORE SURGERY

  • The Pre-op nurse will review important medical information, allergies, etc. The nurse will confirm your surgery, surgical site and consent form.

  • You will have an IV started.

  • You will meet the nurse from the OR. The nurse will review and confirm important medical information, allergies, etc. The nurse will confirm your surgery, surgical site and consent form.

  • The Anesthesiologist will see you and discuss the anesthetic plan (general vs. local anesthesia). This will not be discussed prior to this with Dr. Desai. This plan will be made between yourself and your Anesthesiologist.

  • Dr. Desai will meet you and confirm your surgery, surgical site and consent form. He will mark the surgery site with a marker. Any last questions will be answered.

5 MINUTES BEFORE SURGERY

  • You will be taken into the OR by the OR nurse and the Surgical Assistant.

  • Post-op Nurses will call your family member to advise them of your status and when you are available to be picked up.
